SCHOOL SPIRIT – Pauoa Elementary Spirit Week is upon us. Join the fun and show your school pride!  The grade level with the most school spirit throughout the week will win a fabulous prize!

 

Oct. 29 Monday – Black/White Day

Oct. 30 Tuesday – Super Hero Day

Oct. 31 Wednesday – Happy Halloween!

Nov. 1  Thursday – Cartoon Day

Nov. 2  Friday – Beach Day 

 

PTC EARLY DISMISSAL/AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM CANCELATION – Students will be dismissed at 1:15 on Oct. 29, 30, Nov. 1, 2, Nov. 5, 8, and 9 to accommodate Parent/Teacher Conferences. Although the A+ program will not be interrupted, all other afterschool programs, tutoring and enrichment programs, will be canceled from Oct. 29-Nov. 9. Wednesday dismissal will remain at 1:30.

 

PARENT/TEACHER CONFERENCES – Teachers are looking forward to meeting with parents to share and exchange important information about their students. Conferences have been scheduled at 15 minute intervals. Please be punctual for your conference. Thank you for your involvement and cooperation.

OCTOBER 30TH OHANA NIGHT – Save the date!!!  October 30, 5:30-7:30 pm.  Please come for a night of fun, excitement and creativity as your child(ren) enjoy activities put on by the Executive Women’s League of Hawaii, pumpkin carving contest and bonding time with your ohana (family).  There will also be our School Community Council community meeting highlighting our plans this school year, recognition received and update of our WASC (Western Association for School and College) report. ART AND POETRY CONTEST – Calling all artists and poets! Hawai’i Gas Company is sponsoring an art/poetry contest to promote locally grown, caught, or raised products. This is an awesome opportunity for students to showcase their artistic talents. Deadline to enter is November 30.  Entries may be turned in to your child’s teacher. Art & Poetry Contest.pdf

 

SCIENCE FAIR FEBRUARY 2019 – Looking for students, individuals or small groups, to create and present a science project.  This is your opportunity to display your knowledge and represent Pauoa Elementary in the Honolulu District Science Fair in February. An informational meeting will be held on Friday, October 26 in the Library during first recess for students in Grades 3-5.

 

STUDENT PORTRAITS – Picture taking for students who did not take a photo or for students who wish to retake their photo will be on November 20. If retaking a photo, the original photo package must be returned to the photographer on the retake day.

STUDENT PORTRAITS – Class photos and student portraits were distributed last week. Make up picture taking for students who did not take a photo or for students who wish to retake their photo will be on November 20. Students who wish to retake their photo return their photo package to the photographer on the retake day.

 

ACCREDITATION VISIT – Throughout the week, we will be hosting a team of educators from across the state and California who will be observing classes and meeting with school staff, students, and parents. The team represents the Western Association of Colleges and Schools (WASC) and will be validating the Pauoa’s programs and system for continued school improvement.

 

UNITY DAY – Hawaii’s DOE is encouraging students and staff to join a national movement for inclusive, nurturing learning environments for all. On Wednesday, Oct. 24, wear orange to show you care about safe and supportive schools and communities, and for solidarity during National Bullying Prevention Month. Let’s send a giant ORANGE message of hope and support!

 

OCT. 25 AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM CANCELLATION – After school tutoring with Mrs. Obayashi and Ms. Tatemichi, Arts and Crafts with Ms. Ota and Mrs. Hamada, and Arts and Ceramics with Mrs. Newton and Mrs. Fong will be canceled on Thursday, 10/25.  *Mana Mele Singing Class will be held as usual.

NATIONAL BLUE RIBBON RECOGNITION – We are proud to announce Pauoa Elementary is a 2018 National Blue Ribbon School! Our outstanding academic achievement has led to this prestigious recognition. Congratulations to all for your support and dedication to academic excellence. Principal Arakaki and Mrs. Yama, Pauoa’s Curriculum Coordinator, will be attending a special ceremony in Washington D.C. in November to accept the Blue Ribbon Award on behalf of Pauoa Elementary.

 

FIRE SAFETY BOOKLET – Your child was given the 2018 Fire Fighter’s Safety Guide.  Please review the booklet’s safety tips and complete the activities with your child.  Click on the link to watch a short video on planning a home fire escape plan. Fire Safety Minute Video

 

BOX TOPS – Clipping Box Tops is an easy way to help earn cash for our school. Each one is worth 10¢ for our school! Just look for the pink Box Tops on hundreds of products. All you have to do is clip them and drop them off at the office. Please check the expiration date on the Box Tops; expired Box Tops are invalid.

 

ACCREDITATION VISIT – A team of four administrators and teachers from California and schools throughout our state will be on our campus next week to verify our current programs and school improvement process.  The visiting team will be observing classes and meeting with school staff, students, and parents. The team’s visit is an important step to determine an accreditation status.
